Terms of Service

The terms.

These are the rules of the road for using ChairCal. We've tried to keep this readable. Last updated 2026-06-02.

1. Acceptance & the parties

These Terms of Service are a contract between you ("you," the stylist using the service) and Peter Lewis, doing business as ChairCal ("ChairCal," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. We may update these terms; we'll tell you by email if we do, and your continued use after that counts as acceptance.

2. The Service

ChairCal ("the service") is booking, cancellation recovery, and client communication software for independent hair stylists. We provide the software; you provide your business and your client list. We're not a party to the bookings between you and your clients — you remain the merchant of record for everything that happens in your chair.

3. Your Account

You're responsible for everything that happens in your account. Keep your login secure. Don't share it with someone running a different chair (they can sign up themselves). If someone uses your account without permission, tell us at support@chaircal.com and we'll help sort it out.

You must be 18 or older to use ChairCal. The service is intended for use in the United States and Canada.

4. SMS Consent (TCPA)

By adding a client's phone number to ChairCal, you confirm you have their consent to send them appointment-related text messages (confirmations, reminders, cancellation alerts). The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) requires that consent. We rely on you having it.

Every text we send on your behalf includes opt-out language. Clients who reply with any of the standard opt-out keywords — STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT — are removed from your blast list automatically and immediately, and we will not send them another message until they re-opt in.

You agree not to use ChairCal to send marketing or promotional messages outside the booking flow. The service is for transactional and relationship-management messaging only.

5. Subscription & Billing

ChairCal is $29 per month, or $19 per month if you're one of the first 100 stylists (locked for life). Billing is in U.S. dollars, charged monthly to the card you have on file. The 14-day free trial requires no card up front; if you don't add a card before the trial ends, your account pauses (your data stays, your booking page goes offline).

Prices may change. If we raise prices, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email. Your founders rate, if you have one, stays locked.

6. Cancellation & Refunds

You can cancel any time from your dashboard. There's no contract, no minimum term, no cancellation fee. Your booking page goes offline at the end of your current billing period; your client list remains exportable.

30-day money-back guarantee. If ChairCal doesn't pay for itself in your first 30 days as a paying customer, email support@chaircal.com and we'll refund your first month — no forms, no questions, no exit interview. This guarantee applies to your first paid month only.

7. Your Content & Data Ownership

Your client list, your appointments, your messages, your booking page content — it's all yours. We store and process it on your behalf, but it's your data. You can export it as CSV at any time, including after you cancel.

You grant us a limited license to display your business name, services, and booking page on chaircal.com/your-handle so the service can function. We won't use your client data for anything other than running the service for you.

Your warranty about client data. By uploading client names, phone numbers, email addresses, appointment history, or any other personal information about your clients to ChairCal, you confirm that you have the right to share that information with us for the purposes of running your booking and messaging service. This extends the SMS-specific consent in §4 to all client data you bring into ChairCal. You're the data controller for your client list; we're the processor acting on your instructions.

8. Product Analytics

We record a defined set of product events — sign-up, page-section views (dashboard, inbox, schedule, billing), and business actions (booking created, blast sent, client added) — and attribute them to your account when you're signed in. We don't record arbitrary clicks or keystrokes; only the named events we've built into the product to understand what's working. We use this data to debug issues and decide what to build next. We do not sell it. We do not share it with advertisers. It stays inside ChairCal.

Marketing-page visits and the exit-intent prompt are recorded anonymously (no account attached) so we can see how people find us. Once you sign up, events tie to your account via your user ID — never your name, email, or client data.

Closing your account stops new events, and we'll delete the event log on request via support@chaircal.com.

9. Acceptable Use

Don't use ChairCal to break the law, harass anyone, send messages to people who haven't opted in, or operate any kind of automated abuse. Don't try to reverse-engineer the service, scrape it, or use it to build a competing product. We will terminate accounts that violate this section, and may report violations to relevant authorities.

10. Limitation of Liability

ChairCal is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it running, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service or that the service will fit your particular needs. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to the service is capped at the amount you've paid us in the prior 12 months.

11. Termination

You can cancel any time. We can terminate or suspend your account if you violate these terms, fail to pay, or use the service to harm others. We'll typically give you notice first unless the violation is serious enough that we need to act immediately.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, U.S.A., without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of San Francisco County, California.

13. Who runs ChairCal

ChairCal is operated by Peter Lewis as a sole-proprietor business doing business as ChairCal. When these terms refer to ChairCal, that's the legal entity you're contracting with.
